Large Cows Gallery

Introduction

This page is a photo gallery of all the Cows About Cambridge Large Cow sculptures that were on display in Cambridge between late June and early September 2021. See the Large Cows Trail page for a full record of the walking trail, including streetscapes and landmarks between the cow locations. See the Mini-Moos Gallery page for a similar photo gallery of the small Mini-Moo cows.

With a few exceptions these photos were taken on three occasions:

  1. When walking the Large Cows Trail on 10th August 2021.
  2. During a return visit to most of the cows on 3rd September 2021, when there were fewer people and obstructions around some of them.
  3. During the Farewell Event at the Grafton Centre on 17th September 2021.

Disappointingly, the trail did not leave a civic art legacy. No auctioned cows reappeared on display in public places in Cambridge, although MOOOOre Gin Please found a home inside the Hilton Hotel. If you find one on display in a location open to the public and not mentioned here please contact me!

Cows 42-44: Heard by the Herd

The “Heard by the Herd Cow-Munity Project” display was a big disappointment – three large cows (and five Mini-Moos) behind glass in a dimly lit window of a shop that was never open. I only managed to get poor photographs of them.

These three cows weren’t present at the Farewell Event. I was told their embellishments were made of cardboard and wouldn’t survive much handling.

Farewell Event

The Farewell Event was held over three days in the Ping Pong Parlour at the Grafton Centre. One previously unseen large cow appeared here, as well as two Mini-Moos. I gather it was commissioned as a spare in case one of the others got broken.

Cow 45 “Bee Back Soon”

Location: Farewell Event only
Artist: Sasha DeWitt Studios
Design: Yellow background decorated with white flora and fauna
Details: Bee Back Soon

Group Shots

Finally a few pictures of the cows arranged in groups around the sides of the shop unit. A few were on their own in the middle and “Stardust” was outside on the concourse.

Mystery Cows – Where were these?

Cows About Cambridge isn’t the first cow sculpture trail I’ve come across. The three cows below were part of one in a US city I visited several years ago.
